A 17-year-old Lexington teenager has died after the Saluda County Coroner's Office said he fell out of his boat into Lake Murray on Monday afternoon.

Saluda County Coroner Angie Rita identified the victim as Bryson Burns.

"The Saluda County Coroner’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Bryson Burns," Rita said in a statement. "This tragic loss is felt deeply throughout the community, and our hearts are with all who knew and loved him."

The state Department of Natural Resources and rescue teams were notified Monday by the Saluda County Sheriff's Office about an unoccupied boat near Ramp 4 off River Bend Point in Saluda County, according to the coroner's office.

The coroner's office said DNR's dive team located Burns around 8:30 p.m. Monday. Burns was the sole occupant of the small johnboat.

An autopsy will be performed later this week.

The Saluda County Coroner’s Office, state DNR and the State Law Enforcement Division's Child Fatality Unit are investigating.
