The South Carolina Ports Authority has a new president and CEO.
Micah Mallace, who previously served as the chief commercial officer at the Ports Authority before becoming president of a private harbor logistics company, will assume the post later this month.
Mallace succeeds Barbara Melvin, who abruptly resigned as CEO in August after three years in the head position.
He is a native of Charleston. His annual salary will be $525,000.
The State Ports Authority operates marine terminals at the Port of Charleston and inland facilities in Greer and Dillon. It’s considered one of the state’s key economic engines.
The nine-member Ports Authority board said in a Monday release the vote to appoint Mallace was unanimous.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as the next President and CEO at SC Ports. The port team and South Carolina’s broader maritime community provide port service that is unmatched, and I know, together, we will further strengthen our competitiveness,” Mallace said in a statement.
Gov. Henry McMaster, who appoints the Ports Authority board, said in a post on X that he looks forward to working with the new CEO.
The success and growth of the Port is critical to our state’s great future prosperity. I look forward to working with the Board and their new President and CEO Micah Mallace to make it happen. https://t.co/crTU9liQiT
