The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division on Wednesday announced the arrest of Treveion James Crawford, 18, of Columbia.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged Treveion James Crawford, 18, with Carrying a Weapon on School Property. The arrest comes amid SLED's ongoing investigation into two shootings at South Carolina State University in early October.

According to the SLED arrest warrant, a video shows Crawford possessing a handgun in the courtyard of Hugine Suites on the evening of Oct. 4—the day of the shootings. Investigators say Jaliyah Butler, 19, was killed in the gunfire while a second shooting on campus that same evening left a man injured.

The shootings are not believed to be connected at this time; however, SLED continues to investigate the incidents. Anyone with information on either incident should call (866) 472-8477 and/or email tips@sled.sc.gov.
