The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed an additional measles case in the Upstate, bringing the total number of illnesses in the current outbreak to 44. In all, 47 people have been infected in the state this year.

Potential exposures for the most recent case are still being investigated.

DPH reports that of the 44 illnesses in the current outbreak nine are under the age of five, 25 are between the ages of five and 17, five are 18 years or older, and the ages of five are not known.

To help protect residents, DPH is offering additional vaccinations - at no cost - via its Mobile Health Unit. The unit will be located at Landrum Library, 111 East Asbury Dr., Landrum, next Monday and Tuesday from 1 p.m.-4p.m.

Since DPH began administering the free MMR vaccinations in mid-October, 31 doses have been given to 25 adults and 6 children.
