Clemson University will begin the process of seeking new leadership following the retirement of President James P. Clements. After 12 years of service, Clements will retire, effective December 31.
Clements shared the news with the Clemson community Tuesday in a heartfelt letter. The message noted his profound appreciation for the University and the Clemson family, calling his tenure an incredible journey.
"Serving as president of Clemson University has been one of the greatest honors of my life," Clements said. "Clemson is more than a university to me — it is home. I am profoundly grateful to the Board of Trustees, our leadership team and the entire Clemson family for their trust, support and friendship throughout this incredible journey.”
The Board of Trustees will meet via teleconference on Wednesday, December 10 at 2 p.m. to honor Clements' legacy and begin shaping Clemson's next chapter. During the meeting, the Board is expected to name interim leadership and discuss the formation of a presidential search committee.
The meeting will stream live on the Clemson University website.
