Winter Storm Fern now linked to six deaths in South Carolina

The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed two additional deaths associated with Winter Storm Fern, bringing the total in the state to six.

The frigid impacts of Winter Storm Fern are now being linked to two additional deaths in South Carolina, bringing the total number of storm-related fatalities in the state to six.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) reports both deaths happened in Laurens County as a result of hypothermia. An 85-year-old man died Wednesday and a 91-year-old woman on Friday.

Earlier last week, DPH confirmed the death of a 79-year-old Oconee County man who died after slipping and falling. In addition, a 59-year-old Charleston County man, 83-year-old Lexington County woman, and 96-year-old Greenwood County woman also died, all from hypothermia.
