The South Carolina Department of Public Health also reports 126 total deaths linked to the flu this season and 169 hospitalizations.

New numbers associated with flu-related deaths in South Carolina reveal 40 people have died from causes linked to influenza this season, according to the state Department of Public Health (DPH).

The latest count includes deaths as of Saturday, Feb. 7.

DPH also reports there have been 126 total flu-related deaths so far this season. 169 South Carolinians have been hospitalized because of the illness.

DPH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone 6 months and older get vaccinated against the flu, especially young children, adults 50 and older, pregnant women and those with certain chronic medical conditions.

Additional information about the flu and important resources can be found on the DPH website.
