Trump nominates Greenville-based attorney to federal court bench

Sheria Clarke, a partner at Nelson Mullins law firm in Greenville, served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for three years, among other notable positions.

President Donald Trump has nominated Greenville-based attorney Sheria Clarke to fill the lone vacancy on the state’s U.S. District Court.

Clarke, a partner at the Nelson Mullins law firm in Greenville, previously served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for three years and spent over a decade on Capitol Hill. She notably served as staff director for the House Oversight Committee under former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy.

In a post on Truth Social, the President praised Clarke as someone the people of South Carolina can trust to "protect the integrity of our legal system."

The recommendation was championed by Senator Tim Scott, who has long highlighted Clarke's legal acumen and character.

If confirmed, Clarke would replace Judge Bryan Harwell, George W. Bush appointee who took senior status in 2024.
