"The mothership of terrorism is sinking. The captain is dead," said Sen. Graham Sunday.

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) spoke Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press on the state of U.S. and Iran relations following a Saturday military operation that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The senator spoke in support of President Trump and said the task of finding the next ruler of Iran does not fall on the United States.

"There will be no American boots on the ground," Sen. Graham said. "This is not Iraq."

Sen. Graham also spoke on America First and the policies outlined in the agenda.

"America first is to make sure no regime that wants to hurt America can," he said. "America first is to kill people who wish us ill with a record of trying to destroy us and the region."

Sen. Graham went on to say he hopes the Iranian people will "chart a new destiny."

Other South Carolina leaders weighed in on the operation as well.

Rep. James Clyburn (D) said in a statement, "The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war for a reason: to ensure that such a consequential decision is made only after full consideration by the people’s representatives...The Trump Administration, in disregarding this constitutional requirement in attacking Iran, has put American lives at risk despite the apparent absence of an imminent threat to our country or a coherent strategy to achieve a successful outcome."

Rep. Nancy Mace (R) said on social media that the U.S. and Israel “did not flinch and did not negotiate with darkness. ”

At least four American service members have died as a result of the strikes.
