The incident in Graniteville marks the eighth officer-involved shooting in South Carolina this year.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Aiken County. The incident in Graniteville on Friday marks the eighth officer-involved shooting in the state this year.

In a news release, SLED says Aiken County deputies responded to a burglary-in-progress call at a home on Connector Road, where an officer encountered an armed man inside the residence. An altercation followed, and agents say the deputy shot the man.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to the release, a second man jumped from a window of the home and encountered deputies outside. Another struggle occurred, but no shots were fired.

The man was hurt in the fall and was also taken to a hospital for treatment. No law enforcement officers were injured.

SLED says this marks the first officer-involved shooting this year for the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. There were four such shootings in Aiken County last year and 45 statewide.
