The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is alerting motorists to upcoming changes in traffic patterns along portions of I-95 in Jasper County and I-77 in Richland County.
Richland County
Beginning Thursday, March 19, drivers will notice a new single left turn lane with traffic signals on US-21 Southbound at the I-77 on-ramp. A new yield sign also will be installed on the existing on-ramp from US-21 Northbound to I-77 Southbound, and the current loop ramp on US-21 Southbound will be demolished.
Additionally, two new left turn lanes and new traffic signals will open at the I-77 Northbound off-ramp to US-21 (Exit 24). The existing free-flow right turn lane will not be impacted by this change.
Jasper County
On Tuesday, March 23, SCDOT will temporarily close the John Smith Rd. overpass and road between US-278 and US-17. The closure will be in effect through the remainder of the year.
During this time, crews will complete the replacement of the bridge over I-95 as part of corridor improvements from the state line at Georgia and mile marker 8.
Local traffic will have access to portions of John Smith Rd. Through traffic will not be allowed.
Drivers who use this road to cross I-95 will be able to use Exit 5 or Exit 8 to reach their destination. A marked detour route will be in place throughout the duration of the closure.
SCDOT urges motorists to use caution when driving through the work zones.
