The ex-girlfriend of the man who kidnapped and murdered 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel nearly 20 years ago is appealing her federal prison sentence for lying to investigators.

In court documents filed this week, Angel Vause argued that her 18-year-sentence should be overturned, calling it unconstitutional and a violation of protections against double jeopardy.

Specifically, she says her three false statements to the FBI in 2022 should have been treated as one during sentencing. And her attorneys argue, Vause’s sentence was significantly higher than what was requested. Prosecutors disagree.

Vause was dating Raymond Moody in 2009 when he kidnapped and murdered Drexel, a New York teen who disappeared while on spring break.
