At the State House, leaders with the South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce (SCMC) announced what voters decided was the coolest thing made in the Palmetto State this year.
Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner, made in North Charleston, took the top spot. Other finalists included JTEKT's Constant Velocity Joint, Zeus's PFX Flex Sub-Lite-Wall, and NursEdvance Innovations' CardioEducator.
SCMC reports the Dreamliner is the bestselling passenger widebody aircraft in aviation history, known for its advanced technology and fuel efficiency. The North Charleston facility where the product is made in South Carolina employs more than 9,000 associates.
"Manufacturing is at the heart of what makes South Carolina a great place to work and live," said SCMC President and CEO Sara Hazzard.
The accolade is part of the annual Manufacturing Madness Contest.
