A Williamsburg County woman is charged with fraudulently receiving $38,376 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) on Wednesday announced the arrest of Monique McCrea, 35, of Kingstree.
McCrea is charged with the Fraudulent Acquisition or Use of Food Stamps greater than $10,000.
According to the arrest warrant, on seven occasions between November 2020 and September 2024, McCrea knowingly provided false information on SNAP applications by only listing herself and six minor children as household residents on the forms and willfully excluding her husband's income.
As a result, McCrea received an over issuance of benefits that she was not entitled to. She was booked at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.
The DSS Office of the Inspector General reminds South Carolinians that reports of fraud can be made to the office online or by calling 800-616-1309.
