The South Carolina Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing on April 28 about the proposed project.

A proposed project would allow for corridor improvements on I-26 between mile markers 172 and 187 in Berkeley and Dorchester Counties, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). The agency will hold a public hearing and open house on April 28 at Woodland High School for residents to share comments about plans.

Transportation officials say the purpose of the project is to improve traffic operations and existing geometry associated with roadways and bridges along the 15 mile stretch of interstate. The project, officials add, is needed due to existing and projected traffic volumes and operating conditions along this section of I-26. Additional information about plans can be found here.

The April 28 public hearing will be held in the Woodland High School gymnasium. Beginning at 5 p.m., the public is invited to view displays and speak with project representatives. At 6 p.m., the formal portion will begin with a brief presentation by SCDOT followed by a verbal comment session. Anyone wishing to make a formal verbal comment must sign up by 5:55 p.m. at the sign-in table near the entrance. Each comment will be limited to 2 minutes.

Outside of April 28, SCDOT will be accepting public comments until May 13. Comments may be made online or by emailing i26improvements@scdot.org.
