South Carolina's emergency response leaders met this week for a statewide logistics workshop. Officials with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD) said the goal of the workshop is to strengthen coordination, resource management, and operational readiness among emergency response partners.
Participants engaged in discussions on topics, including chainsaw support operations and capabilities, transportation resource coordination, and effective base camp operations.
According to SCEMD, a central component of the workshop was to identify support requirements and capabilities, encouraging participants to identify areas for improvement and explore ways to ensure continued engagement and value in the process. Discussions also included the use and potential expansion of regional staging areas, allowing jurisdictions to consider whether these resources meet their operational needs.
“This workshop is an opportunity to bring our partners together to strengthen coordination and ensure we are prepared to meet the logistical challenges of any disaster,” said SCEMD Chief of Operations Support Guy Gierhart. “By working collaboratively, we can refine our processes and enhance our ability to support communities across South Carolina.”
