Andre Bauer, who previously served South Carolina as lieutenant governor, could soon be a U.S. Ambassador.
Bauer, a Republican, is listed among other nominations sent to the U.S. Senate by President Trump. Should the senate approve his nomination, Bauer would serve as ambassador to Belize.
The Charleston native served under former Governor Mark Sanford from 2003 until 2011. In the years prior, Bauer served as a representative in the South Carolina House before being elected into the upper chamber as a senator.
Sen. Lindsey Graham reacted on social media platform X to the news of Bauer's nomination.
"Congratulations to Andre Bauer for being nominated to be the Ambassador to Belize, an important ally to the United States," wrote Sen. Graham. "Andre will do a great job. I look forward to helping him with his nomination and getting him through the Senate as soon as possible."
All ambassador nominations submitted by the White House must be approved by congress.
