Protestors are calling for South Carolina State University to replace Lt. Governor Pamela Evette as commencement speaker during next week's spring graduation ceremony. However, according to the university's website, there is no official word on who will speak.
A Facebook video shows demonstrators walking in protest against the lieutenant governor—demanding university administrators cancel her commencement address because of her support of President Trump and her pledge to end "radical" DEI scams on college campuses.
Lt. Governor Evette responded on social media Tuesday saying "these leftist protestors are coming after me because they know I will not bend a knee or compromise on South Carolina’s conservative values."
South Carolina State University will hold its 2026 Spring Commencement Ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.
