Former Pee Dee Regional Center employee Haven Alyssa Jackson, 22, of Florence is in jail following the death of a person in her care. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged Jackson with Abuse or Neglect Resulting in Death of a Vulnerable Adult and Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult.
A SLED arrest warrant shows Jackson did not try to save the life of a person in her care who choked while eating unapproved food at lunch. The report goes on to read that Jackson was seen on surveillance video laughing while the victim choked and falsified documentation to indicate she performed the required 15-minute accountability checks.
Jackson worked as a direct support professional at the Pee Dee Regional Center—a state-operated facility that provides care for people with severe intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Jackson was denied bond and remains in jail at the Florence County Detention Center.
