During the three-day sales tax holiday, state and local sales taxes are waived on eligible school-year essentials.

The state's annual Tax Free Weekend is set to return from Friday, Aug. 7th through Sunday, Aug. 9th.

During the three-day sales tax holiday, state and local sales taxes are waived on eligible school-year essentials. Those include school supplies, computers, clothing, shoes, and certain bed and bath items. The tax exemption applies to both in-store and online purchases, regardless of the item's price or whether it is new or used.

According to the South Carolina Department of Revenue (DOR), all retailers selling eligible items are required to participate.

The tax holiday marks its 26th year in South Carolina. DOR says that during last year's event, shoppers purchased more than $25 million in tax-free items, resulting in more than $1.5 million in sales tax savings.

A full list of exempt and non-exempt items can be found on the department's website.
