Former York County Councilman Chad Williams won the election with about 84% of the vote. He defeated Monika White, who received about 16% of the vote.
According to the State Election Commission, about 1,700 of the district's 80,000 registered voters participated. The District 15 seat is currently held by Republican state Senator Wes Climer.
Climer is the Republican nominee for South Carolina's 5th Congressional District race on the ballot in November. He, therefore, resigned his seat in the state Senate, which will be effective on Nov. 3—the day of the General Election.
There was no Republican primary for the District 15 seat race. Rock Hill school board member James Burns is the Republican nominee.
Burns and Williams will appear on the November ballot. The winner of the election will finish out the state senate term that ends in 2028.
