Making It Grow, with host Amanda McNulty

Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. When Momma was dying and in the hospital, she fretted about how to amuse her very young grandchildren, so she made the hospital bed go up and down. She had so few new experiences to share. When a woman whom I had loved dearly from childhood was bedridden at home before her death, I thought how limited her news was for visitors. So I took Chickie Wimberly to visit her. With a clean sheet underneath the chicken, Roberta had a totally unexpected afternoon. Her daughter told me that when subsequent visitors came she said, “You just won’t believe what that fool McNulty child did!” If it's appropriate, don’t tiptoe around dying people when you visit them, give them a new experience so they can do the entertaining when people come to see them.

Amanda McNulty is a Clemson University Extension Horticulture agent and the host of South Carolina ETV’s Making It Grow! gardening program. She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
