Nashville musicologist tackles SEC fight songs in new book
Carrie Allen Tipton's From Dixie to Rocky Top: Music and Meaning in Southeastern Conference Football is a dive into a previously-neglected area of musicological research: the origins and cultural significance of some of the most recognizable tunes in the "football-haunted" South.
In this extended version of a Sonatas & Soundscapes interview that aired on Wednesday, November 22nd, host Bradley Fuller is joined by Nashville-based musicologist and Vanderbilt University professor Dr. Carrie Allen Tipton.
Tipton shares about her recent book From Dixie to Rocky Top: Music and Meaning in Southeastern Conference Football, offering insights into the history and importance of college fight songs at SEC schools from the late nineteenth century to the present.
From Dixie to Rocky Top is available through Vanderbilt University Press.
