Women Entrepreneurs Surviving the Pandemic

South Carolina Business Review logo

We last interviewed our next guest when her magazine for women entrepreneurs was just getting off the ground. As our state is beginning to emerge on the other side of this pandemic, we thought we’d check in and see how she and other women small business owners that she has been in touch with have been able to keep their businesses afloat.

Mike Switzer interviews Anna Gelbman Edmonds, publisher and managing editor of The F Suite in Columbia, SC.

Disclaimer: Mike Switzer contributed an article to an upcoming issue of The F Suite and SC Public Radio received an advertisement in a previous issue as a trade in lieu of payment for that article. This South Carolina Business Review interview was produced independent of that trade agreement.

After almost 20 years, Mike Switzer retired from Wells Fargo Securities in 2001 as Senior Vice President/Investment Officer and Certified Portfolio Manager. In 1999, he and his wife, Maggie, purchased and operated for eight years the Baskin Robbins ice cream store on Forest Drive in Columbia. They grew the store from a bottom-tier operation in the Baskin Robbins franchise system to one in the top 5% nationwide within three years, tripling sales along the way. While operating the ice cream store, Mike and Maggie received patents for a portable ice cream sink and fold-down sneezeguard they invented and in 2002 started Magnolia Carts, an ice cream cart manufacturing company, which they sold in 2013.
