SC Senate Passes Santee Cooper Reform Bill

Peter McCoy of Charleston was named this week by Gov. Henry McMaster to chair the Santee Cooper Board of Directors.

After almost four years of investigations, recriminations, hearings and debate following the V-C Summer nuclear debacle, both the South Carolina House and Senate have now passed bills to bring major reform to state owned utility Santee Cooper.

Governor Nominates New Chariman for Santee Cooper

This week the Senate passed its reform bill, and as expected turned its' back on the idea of selling the utility which is considered one of state government’s greatest assets.

Since the collapse of the giant nuclear project in 2017, Santee Cooper has been under the gun from the legislature for the billions of dollars of debt it was left with, and how the utility’s leadership handled things before and after the collapse.
