Challenger

A native of Lake City, South Carolina, Dr. McNair was one of seven astronauts who perished aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger on Jan. 28, 1986.

Dr. Ronald McNair, born in Lake City and the second African American man in space, was honored with the title of "Palmetto Pioneer" Wednesday afternoon.
