USDA investigates new allegations against Lowcountry research center where monkeys escaped

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has filed a new complaint with USDA alleging monkeys have died at Alpha Genesis since this month's escape.

Several monkeys as seen from roadside at the Alpha Genesis Primate Research Center's second facility just outside Yemassee. 43 monkeys escaped another facility, and several are still missing two weeks later. Th company breeds and sells primates worldwide for medical research. Nov. 14, 2024.

43 monkeys remain on the run from South Carolina lab. CEO thinks they're having an adventure

Forty-three monkeys bred for medical research that escaped a compound in South Carolina have been spotted in the woods near the site and workers are using food to try to recapture them, authorities said Friday.
