GlebKanasevich is no stranger to Spoleto Festival USA. Over the past four years he’s performed in various operas and as a member of the festival orchestra. This year he returns to Charleston not only as a performer in Lachenmann’s opera The Little Match Girl, but also as a composer: his piece Verpflichtet II is on the Music in Time program on Saturday, June 4th.

Gleb joins South Carolina Public Radio’s Kate McKinney to speak about both the significance of Lachenmann’s opera as a seminal work of the 21st century and the role Lachenmann’s music played in the composition of Verpflichtet II. The piece is scored for chamber orchestra and challenges traditional performance practices of each instrument while referring to sounds of nature and everyday life.
