Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. Sarah Scott, a commercial horticulture agent down in the Ridge, prime peach country, says this is a great year for South Carolina peaches. A major peril to our peach crop is late freezes, and South Carolina growers dodged that bullet this year. No matter what grower produced peaches near you, all of ours are delicious, and different varieties come available about every ten days. The first ones are cling stones, a little more difficult to cut up for pies and such, but great to make peach pickles. Now the free stone varieties are coming in, and although you may have a favorite, all our peaches are selected to be tasty and juicy. In other parts of the country, growers plant varieties that last a long time and, to my mind, don’t hold a candle to ours.
It's free stone peach season
