The 19 cats of Amanda McNulty

Making It Grow Radio Minute
SC Public Radio
Making It Grow, with host Amanda McNulty

Hi, I’m Amanda McNulty Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. The part aluminum door to the back porch has a hole cut in it that was there for the 19 kitty cats we had over the years. Before Calhoun County had a shelter, if the kids and I were at the library and a momma cat with kittens was there, we’d bring them home. Or if a kitty showed up hungry and meowing in the yard, we’d get them fixed and they worked out the pecking order of who ruled the roost – not us or the dogs. We had dry food for them on the porch and other critters would come to enjoy it. There’s a window from our dining room to the back porch, so comings and goings were easy to keep up with. All of this leads up to the Willie and the possum story.

Amanda McNulty is a Clemson University Extension Horticulture agent and the host of South Carolina ETV’s Making It Grow! gardening program. She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
