The South Carolina Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program ( S A R E) gives small grants for educational events that train the trainer. Program assistant Jonathan Windham gave me some examples.
Perhaps a non-profit group might want to conduct a regional farm tour highlighting sustainable ag methods. Or a grower who has had success may host a field day for other farmers on how to choose and manage cover crops. Often small farmers try new methods that could help newcomers to the field be profitable.
SARE can even send Extension agents to conferences to bring home information to their clients. This is just the right program for those who want to share information and help South Carolina farmers stay in business. There are other SARE programs, too, call Jonathan Windham, Clemson’s Pee Dee Research Facility, for more information.
