A. C. Moore Herbarium

Making It Grow logo

If you watch the Making It Grow show, you know that one of our favorite guests is Dr. John Nelson, of mystery plant fame. Also, Dr. Nelson was my favorite professor at the University of South Carolina where he taught field botany and served as the curator of the A. C. Moore Herbarium. And what a herbarium it is! To get to their website, just search “Herbarium dot org. Now, Dr. Herrick Brown has stepped into that role as my friend John has retired. You can submit good photographs for identification through that site – please put a nickel or such in the picture for scale, as Herrick Brown is going to continue that fine service. He recently came on our program and talked about pitcher plants – we cut one open and it was full of dead flies!

Amanda McNulty is a Clemson University Extension Horticulture agent and the host of South Carolina ETV’s Making It Grow! gardening program. She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
