“D” is for Daniel, Beth. Professional golfer.

A Charleston native, Daniel drew national attention in 1975 while a student at Furman University, winning the United States Women’s Amateur golf championship in her first appearance. Daniel repeated that accomplishment in 1977. In 1979 she turned professional and was named Rookie of the Year. Her first four victories in 1980 brought her Player of the Year honors. United Press International recognized her as its 1990 female Athlete of the Year. She represented the United States sixteen times in the Solheim Cup competition against teams of top European golfers. She has received many awards for her golfing prowess, including being selected as only the sixteenth member of the prestigious LPGA Hall of Fame in 1999. The following year, in 2000, Beth Daniel entered the World Golf Hall of Fame.
