My friend Ann Nolte and I enjoy walking some of the many trails on her husband’s property in Calhoun County. Blue is in hog-heaven (sadly, hogs consider this property heaven, too) just getting to romp and if he’s lucky to chase deer. He’s had his rattlesnake and copperhead vaccine, although I really don’t want to find out how well it works.
We came home through what is called Sixteen Acres and that’s where Blue got covered with several hundred cockleburs. This plant native to North America is not good for anything! It’s poisonous, each seed covered with barbed stickers, and really hard to get out of dog’s hair. We used a thinning comb and got out a lot, then at home Blue worked on them himself. As he pulled them out, he placed them on his bed, thankfully not swallowing any.
