GOLDFINCH FOR AG
Georgetown Republican Senator Stephen Goldfinch is the first candidate to declare his bid to be the next Attorney General of South Carolina, two weeks after the current Attorney General Alan Wilson launched his gubernatorial campaign.

SUMTER CO. ROAD CLOSURE
SCDOT will temporarily close a shoulder and single lane on I-95 Northbound at mile marker 138 for maintenance. The closure is from July 8-9.

CALHOUN FALLS TROUBLES
Calhoun Falls mayor Terrico Holland announced the town is shitting down its town hall this week. The closure comes after a string of resignations, amid accusations of corruption and mismanagement.

 
ROLAND SMITH PASSING
Former longtime Aiken County state lawmaker Roland Smith was laid to rest on Saturday. He was remembered by Governor Henry McMaster for his extraordinary legacy and lifetime of service.

Smith represented District 84 in the South Carolina House of Representatives for more than two decades. He was first elected in 1988, and retired in 2014. He is survived by his wife Peggy, three children, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Smith died June 30th at 92.

 
I-26 WORK
The State Department of Transportation (SCDOT) is planning significant upgrades to a heavily traveled stretch of I-26 that runs through Orangeburg and Dorchester counties. Officials are asking for public input before construction begins.

HELENE REPAIR WORK
Crews are expected to begin replacing a bride that was damaged by Hurricane Helene in downtown Greenville.
The City of Greenville said work will begin work Monday night on the Hudson Street Bridge near Unity Park.
According to officials, Hudson Street was one of the 10 bridges placed on the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s accelerated projects. The bridge is expected to take about 8 months to complete.

The West Columbia Riverwalk is set to reopen to the public in September, this come about a year after being damage from Hurricane Helene.
