Congressman Joe Wilson was hospitalized Tuesday for "stroke-like" symptoms, according to his son, Attorney General Alan Wilson.

South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson is "recovering quickly" after he was hospitalized Tuesday for "stroke-like" symptoms, according to Wilson's social media account.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Wilson's office said the Springdale Republican received a pacemaker and is expected to be discharged from the hospital in the coming days.

Wilson, 77, was hospitalized Tuesday after reportedly collapsing at an event in Washington D.C.

Wilson's son, Attorney General Alan Wilson, said that night that his dad experienced "stroke-like" symptoms.

In an earlier post, Wilson's office said the 2nd Congressional District representative was in "good spirits, improving, and speaking with family."

Wilson has represented the Midlands-area district since 2001 after serving 17 years in the South Carolina state Senate. He is a member of U.S. House committees on armed services, foreign affairs and education and workforce. He also chairs the U.S. Helsinki Commission.

Wilson faces Democrat David Robinson II in the Nov. 5 election.
