Help is available for Dominion Energy customers who are facing financial challenges amid the government shutdown and now the looming potential of a SNAP (food stamps) benefits freeze. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will halt on Nov. 1 should Congress not reach an agreement on legislation to ensure funding.
Dominion Energy is working to ease the burden on customers through payment arrangements and other energy assistance programs. The power provider says short and long-term payment plans are available to those who cannot currently afford their monthly bills.
Dominion also is reminding customers about the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which offers energy assistance to eligible households to meet their heating and cooling needs. Additionally, support may be available through your Community Action Agency. More detailed information for customers who need assistance can be found here.
South Carolina Public Radio also reached out to the Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina (ECSC) regarding assistance programs. An ECSC spokesperson says all electric cooperative providers in the state are willing to work with members facing hardships. Customers should reach out to their individual co-op with any inquiries.
