Two siblings in North Carolina have contracted measles. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) reported the cases and revealed a new measles dashboard in a Thursday morning announcement.
The new cases are in Buncombe County, N.C., which does not border South Carolina but does border counties that sit along the state line.
NCDHHS said the new measles revelation was connected to the Upstate South Carolina measles outbreak. Most of North Carolina's seven measles cases since late December 2025 were linked to Spartanburg County, according to the department. Just one case reported Jan. 9 had no identified exposure at the time. NCDHHS said that signified "that there are likely other undetected measles cases" in the state.
So far, Buncombe County leads North Carolina with five reported measles cases since December. Polk and Rutherford counties border South Carolina and are each home to a single confirmed measles case.
The report came after the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SCDPH) reported 124 new measles cases in a Tuesday announcement. The state sits at 434 confirmed cases related to the Upstate outbreak, with 59.4% of cases reported in January alone. Exposure has spread to cities like Greenville and Columbia.
SCDPH has updated measles case counts each Tuesday and Friday. North Carolina has now followed suit with its own measles dashboard. NCDHHS will update the dashboard each Tuesday and Friday at noon.
