AAA offers free towing for impaired drivers over Memorial Day

The auto group's Tow to Go program is available as a back up plan to get drivers home safely.

AAA is offering free towing for impaired drivers — members and non-members alike — through 6 a.m. Tuesday, May 26.

When a driver calls the hotline, AAA will dispatch a tow truck to transport the individual and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. Officials stress the service is for emergencies only.

“We don’t want impaired people getting behind the wheel and risking the lives of everyone on the road,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesperson for AAA. “AAA encourages anyone planning to drink or take impairing substances to also plan for a safe ride. Tow to Go can be your backup plan.”

Service Guidelines & Details

  • Drivers can access the service by calling (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.
  • Appointments cannot be scheduled ahead of time.
  • The service may not be available in certain rural areas or during severe weather conditions. In some situations, AAA may make alternative arrangements to ensure an impaired individual gets home safely.

Since its launch in 1998, the Tow to Go program has provided safe rides for nearly 30,000 impaired drivers nationwide.
