Newly released warrants say the parents of Javeayah Harris, an Aiken County preschooler reported missing by her mother last week, confessed to her death.
Along with the arrest warrants, Aiken County investigators released a 911 call made by Javeayah’s mother, Mischelia Herring, on June 30.
The investigation into Javeayah’s disappearance
News of Javeayah’s disappearance broke last week, after she was reported missing by Herring. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office led the search for the girl, asking for community help. Thousands of people shared the search on social media, but on July 4, Aiken County Sheriff Marty Sawyer Jr. said Javeayah had likely been dead for at least one month.
“We have spoken to Javeayah’s extended family and we ask for you to respect their privacy,” said Sawyer. “We can only imagine what they are going through. We put every resource available to find Javeayah to bring her home safely. Sadly, it was already too late to save her the moment the 911 call came in on June 30.”
The arrests of Mischelia Herring and Johmarea Harris
Mischelia Herring, 22, and Johmarea Harris, 23, are charged with homicide by child abuse. The pair was denied bond.
Arrest warrants released Monday say that Herring admitted to disposing of Javeayah’s body somewhere. Warrants say the pair physically abused the child and did not seek proper medical treatment for her injuries.
The search for Javeayah’s body remains active.
