SC Public Radio's statewide network is experiencing intermittent outages and programming issues due to ongoing infrastructure upgrades. Our team is working to keep these disruptions to a minimum and to resolve issues that do arise. During broadcast outages, streaming on this site, the SCETV App, the NPR App, and smart speakers will remain unaffected.

Earthquake preparedness: Are you ready?

Earthquakes can happen without warning. To keep yourself safe here is what you need to know before, during and after.

Earthquakes can happen without warning. To keep yourself safe here is what you need to know before, during and after.

If shaking starts, drop to your hands and knees, cover your head and neck and hold on to something sturdy, such as, a table. When indoors stay away from windows and anything that can fall. If you’re outdoors, move away from trees, power lines and buildings, try to find an open area.

If you’re driving, pull over to a clear place away from traffic, underpasses and utility wires. Place the car in park, engage the parking break and stay inside with your seatbelt fastened until shaking stops.

Once shaking stops, expect aftershocks, check for injuries and hazards, stay out of damaged building and follow local emergency updates.
