Clarendon County has an elections director, but who is still unknown

Though the Clarendon County Board of Voter Registration and Elections has unanimously voted to hire a new executive director, the public doesn’t know who it is yet.

In a 7-0 this is actually one of the times when numerals are always used vote during Tuesday night's meeting, the board approved a motion to hire a person identified only as “Candidate A”. Board member James Pierson, Jr. made the motion. The new director’s starting salary is set at $57,000 dollars annually.

This comes just three weeks before the November 3 general election.

The board has been without a director since September, when Robert Adams was relieved of his duties after allegations of several policy and security violations.

“The director knowingly continue[d] to fail to follow board policies, county policies," said one council member back in September. “Additionally, the director has continued to display a severe lack of organizing, planning, delegation and time management.”

Council members did not say in the meeting when the identity of the new director would be announced.
