Federal health officials issued a voluntary recall on Oct. 9 of an imported seafood sampler.

The Brooklyn-based wholesale distributor Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. pulled its Starfish Seafood Trio for the potential of bacterial contamination. The packages contain a combination of cold-smoked salmon, halibut, and trout.

The risk is the potential of Listeria. The FDA says it was first discovered by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Listeria is a bacteria that comes with gastrointestinal symptoms and could worsen to more invasive symptoms. People most at risk for complications with listeria are those who are pregnant, over 65, or have a compromised immune system.

South Carolina is one of only six states where the affected seafood assortment was distributed.

The recalled product is identified as follows:

Product Name: Starfish Seafood Trio – Cold Smoked Salmon, Halibut, Trout

Brand: Starfish

Net Weight: 8 oz (227 g)

Packaging: Vacuum-sealed plastic package

Lot Number: D139149161-153

Expiration Date: 12/01/2027

Country of Origin: Latvia

No illnesses have been reported in South Carolina or nationwide. The FDA says anyone who believes they have this product should return it for a refund.
