According to the agency, floods remain the most common and costliest natural disaster in the United States.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has introduced a new way for South Carolina residents to view and purchase flood insurance policy plans. FEMA launched the new digital self-service tool on Tuesday.

The tool offers an online version to view and buy policies. Federal leaders say the goal is to make insurance options more accessible to people.

“I’ve seen firsthand how floodwaters devastate American communities,” said FEMA administrator Cameron Hamilton. “We are making it easier for people to reduce their financial risk and protect what they’ve spent their lives building. With this new digital tool, you can get a quote and buy a flood insurance policy in a matter of minutes. This innovation demonstrates how FEMA is working to cut bureaucracy and deliver results to the American people.”

According to the agency, floods remain the most common and costliest natural disaster in the United States.

Officials say in South Carolina the program already provides nearly 52 billion dollars in coverage across more than 186,000 policyholders.
