The recently deceased Patti McGee was known as a gracious hostess and accomplished gardener not only in South Carolina. The Garden Club of America presented her with an honorary membership for her efforts to advance the world of horticulture. For thirty years she worked intimately with gardeners and expanded both her knowledge and theirs at her Anson Street home in Charleston. Generously opening her garden for tours, she wanted knowledgeable persons meeting visitors, using correct scientific names, and the Charleston Horticulture Society docent program was an outcome of that requirement. As an existing live oak grew, the garden changed from sun to shade orientation and McGee embraced the opportunity to work with and not against nature. Her charm and graciousness extended to hosting Spoleto performers whom she and her husband Peter entertained in addition stars of the gardening world.
