Making It Grow, with host Amanda McNulty

Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. Next time you see some knee-high stockings, you might want to pick up a pair, not worrying about the size or color. Why in the heck would you do that? Well, if you have a lot of brown marmorated stink bugs hanging out in your house for the winter, one way to get rid of them is with a vacuum cleaner, but if you empty the bag outside, they’ll just come back inside, and when they’re riled up they give off an offensive odor and your vacuum cleaner bag will smell even after you empty it. But if you put a stocking over the hose before it reaches the bag, you can then take the bag outside, and stomp on it, but then your shoe will smell, so the best remedy is to put it in the freezer for a while and then put in the outside trash can.

She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
