Hi, I am Mark Rapp and this is Rapp on Jazz.
The Jazz Appreciation Forever Stamp was dedicated in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2011.
Inspired by vintage jazz record album covers in Pasadena, Calif., artist Paul Rogers captured the spontaneity and improvisation of jazz musicians in his design for this stamp.
Thurgood Marshall Jr. stated during the dedication ceremony, “With this evocative Jazz stamp, we celebrate the music and the musicians who play it in studios, clubs, concert halls, and on festival stages. Jazz is a pastime that brings people together, regardless of race, ethnicity or background,” said Marshall. “It’s a lot like the Postal Service, which has been bringing people together for over 235 years through the power of the mail.”
This stamp celebrates the power of music and connection, reminding us of our shared passion for jazz!
