In the first week of April last year, state officials were fearful that the growing COVID pandemic would turn the state’s then booming economy upside down and possibly lead to a recession. A year later those fears have subsided.

Russ McKinney was a reporter for South Carolina Public Radio. He left South Carolina ETV and Public Radio in 2025. <br/><br/>McKinney has 30 years of experience in radio news and public affairs. He is a former broadcast news reporter in Spartanburg, Columbia and Atlanta. He served as Press Secretary to former S.C. Governor Dick Riley for two terms, and for 20 years was the chief public affairs officer for the University of South Carolina.
