Frost potential Friday morning

The coolest air mass of the fall season to date has arrived in the Palmetto State, and multiple nights in a row could be frosty for some.

A Frost Advisory was issued for the South Carolina Upstate and northern areas of the Midlands region where temperatures are likely to cool into the lower and middle 30s by Friday morning. A Freeze Warning was issued for York County where temperatures might also briefly dip below freezing. Low temperatures elsewhere will range from the middle and upper 30s near Columbia, to the lower and middle 40s in the coastal plain.

A low pressure system is forecast to move across Florida and out into the Atlantic Ocean this weekend. Northeasterly winds around the storm will lock in the cool air mass through Monday, and similar overnight low temperatures are once again expected across South Carolina Saturday and Sunday mornings. However, frost may not be as widespread if the winds do not subside in the overnight hours.
