Making It Grow, with host Amanda McNulty

Hello, I’m Amanda McNulty with Clemson Extension and Making It Grow. In addition to calling your local Extension office, many people call the Clemson Home and Garden Center for answers to gardening questions. Just like local agents, they give research-based based information specifically for South Carolina. You can call or email; just search Clemson h g i c for numbers and links. They also have food systems and safety specialists who help with food preservation -- for example canning, which has a long history of being used to put up the bounties of a garden for use all year long. If you have a favorite family recipe, you should take advantage of this resource as it turns out that some of these aren’t safe – the specialists you talk to can design modifications if necessary so you can keep on making your grandmother’s pickles and canned beans and tomatoes.

Amanda McNulty is a Clemson University Extension Horticulture agent and the host of South Carolina ETV’s Making It Grow! gardening program. She studied horticulture at Clemson University as a non-traditional student. “I’m so fortunate that my early attempts at getting a degree got side tracked as I’m a lot better at getting dirty in the garden than practicing diplomacy!” McNulty also studied at South Carolina State University and earned a graduate degree in teaching there.
